We often get asked to pop around to change a couple of spotlights, which as electricians, causes us a bit of confusion as we know spotlights as being a fitting with couple or more directional lights attached to it, so now we have cleared up our terminology confusion, here are some of the frequently asked questions on the subject.

Can I have spot lights in my bathroom?

Spots can be installed in your bathroom but they should comply to building regulations and be suitable for where they have been installed, as a minimum they should be IP44 but IP68 is much better, which basically means they will keep moisture out of the fitting, stop those faults from happening and prevent any electric shocks.

Can I have spot lights in my kitchen?

Spotlights can be installed in the kitchen and basically anywhere in the home they make for a great choice of lighting for any area, spots anywhere in your home should be fire rated as this helps form the fire barrier between the floors in your home, also don’t forget to have mains powered interconnected smoke and heat alarms installed at the same time as any modification works.

What are the benefits of LED spotlights over halogens?

Led spotlight can last up to 15 years and there are plenty of choices of different designs, sizes and beam angles to fit pretty much any lighting project.

They are also much more energy efficient so with the energy bills going through the roof its probably a good time to upgrade.
