With energy prices shooting up through the roof and the tabloids spreading their dome and gloom messages on how we are all going to be sitting in the dark freezing cold this winter, we thought we should give you some friendly money saving tips to help with the lower the energy bill.

So firstly, the easiest and probably the fastest cost saving tip is to change those old light bulbs and downlights to LEDs (Light-emitting diodes (LED) light bulbs use 80–90% less energy, provide better bright light, and can last up to 10 or even 20 times longer).

Secondly, is that beloved washing machine getting on a bit? Appliances count for one of the biggest chunks of your monthly energy bills, so its probably worth looking at changing those old appliances to new energy efficient ones, A+++ are the most energy efficient so it well worth checking the labels.

Thirdly, by lowering your heating one degree could save you up to 5% on your bill. Also, by investing in a smart thermostat, which knows when your home and switches off your heating when your out could save you up to 30% on your heating costs.

Number four, If you only need to heat one room in your home, it may be cheaper to use a portable electric heater and keep the thermostat turned down. For those who live alone or work from home, investing in an electric heater could save on heating bills over time as you're not heating your whole home unnecessarily.

Our fifth piece of advice, switch stuff off at the mains, even if your smart TV is on standby mode, it could still be running up a bill by updating itself. Turning appliances off properly could save you £55 a year, according to figures published in March 2022 by the Energy Savings Trust.

Number six on the list, wait until those new energy efficient washing machines and dishwashes are completing filled before switching them on and try the eco modes. When having a cuppa only boil the amount of water you need, it will not only save you money but the kettle will boil quicker too.

Our last bit of advice is, does your fuse board have a Surge protective device (SPD) installed? A SPD will protect your new appliances from power surges and spikes which in the event of a power surge will save you quite a bit.

Give us a call today if you want you lighting upgraded, need more sockets for those new appliances or would like an SPD installed.
